The World’s Most Coveted Trophy

People who have a competitive fire in them would not ascribe to that adage that goes “It’s not about who wins the game, it’s about how you played it.” Many compete neck-and-neck to bring home that one trophy which will stand as a testament of prowess and domination.

Take away this and any sports event will lose its magic. Competition and the show of proficiencies is what draw crowds to watch game after game after game and to support their team. If a team wins, then everybody who likes that team feels like they’ve brought home the championship trophy, too.

But did you know that the world’s most coveted trophy is actually a cup? It is called the Stanley Cup, which is awarded to the playoffs champion of the National Hockey League. It was named after Lord Stanley Of Preston, Governor General of Canada in 1892 and was established in 1893. Unlike other trophies, the NHL does not make new Stanley Cups each year. Only the first and original Stanley Cup is awarded and passed on from one champion to another, making this year’s playoffs the 117th year since this most priced trophy was first awarded.

What’s unique about the Stanley Cup is that all the names of the players, coaches, and management staff are engraved on its chalice. The bowl on the top is also famous, because it is from the bowl that champions drink their champagne, the same way, as legend has it, the Lord Stanley did.

But of course, people endeavouring in other sports have trophies of their own. The trophies are designed according to the sports. Elegant and prestigious golf trophies, basketball trophies, fishing trophies, and football trophies are made all for the purpose of having a tangible proof and representation of a victorious moment.

You can choose carefully for one to award the champion of your sports competition, and given the quality of material and the special designs on it, you bet it also can be the world’s most coveted trophy.
